Biography

Born in Roslanerchragog October 30, 1878 in the family of John and Margaret Roberts. Musical talent manifested in him early. Since childhood, he participated in competitions at Welsh festivals - estestvodov and won several times [2] .

He studied piano and organ. From 1894 to 1903 he was an organist in the Minidd-Zeon Congregational Church in the village of . In 1903, he received a place as an organist in the Betlehem Congregational Church in Roslanerchragog, and held this position until his death. He defended his degrees in 1906 with a and in 1911 with a , both at Oxford University. [3] From 1914 to 1920 he headed the department of music at the [2] .

Roberts was one of the editors of Y Caniedydd Cynulleidfaol Newydd (1921), the Welsh Independent Church anthem, and Caniedydd Newydd yr Ysgol Sul (1930), the Welsh Independent Church Sunday school anthem.

The composer was the author and arranger of numerous hymns, a number of which were included in the collection of Welsh solemn songs. Among his most famous works - the hymns and Memorial, the latter became a tribute to the author of the Welsh composer and conductor . Roberts died in Wrexham on March 3, 1935 and was buried in the Roslanerchragog cemetery. [3]
