| Employees of the Fire Department 51 are experiencing the death of a team member in a fire. Even a month after the tragedy, two 51-unit lieutenants - Matthew Casey and Kelly Severeid - blame each other for the death of a friend and colleague Andy Darden. They manage to resolve their differences when one of their colleagues, Christopher Herrmann, nearly dies on his next trip. Paramedic Gabriela Dawson is disciplined after trying to save the injured girl by doing a dangerous procedure outside the hospital. Newcomer Peter Mills enters the fire department. | Severeid has severe pain due to a shoulder injury that he hides from everyone. | Casey is forced to make a difficult decision and tells the Chicago police that the son of Detective Voight was drunk and provoked an accident. | All members of the fire department must pass a doping test after being called to kindergarten, where a methamphetamine laboratory was found in the basement. Severeid is concerned about the check because secretly even from Shay takes painkillers. | Dawson and Mills decide not to advertise their relationship in part. Shay returns to the calculation.
