Biography

Brett Jones was born February 21, 1992 in Swansea , Wales . He was fond of martial arts from a young age, already at the age of four he began to master judo , trained in the hall of his father, a judoka. It has a black judo belt, a brown Thai boxing belt and a purple Brazilian jiu-jitsu belt . At the same time as a sports career, he worked part-time as a construction worker [1] .

Beginning of a professional career

He began to perform in mixed martial arts in 2011 as an amateur, won four victories, without having suffered a single defeat. He made his debut at the professional level in June 2012, defeating his rival with the help of a strangulation from behind. He fought in various small Welsh and English promotions, such as Pain Pit Fight Night, Celtic Battle Fight Night, Cage Warriors , Bad Blood Fight Night, while invariably coming out of all fights as a winner. He became the champion of PPFN and Cage Warriors in the lightest weight category.

In 2015, Jones signed a contract with a major American organization, the Titan Fighting Championships, and in his debut fight he challenged the current lightweight champion title - he forced another challenger, Wolley Watson , to surrender, catching him from the strangulation from behind, and took the championship belt for himself. In the same year he was supposed to defend his title in a duel with Anthony Gutierrez, but failed to meet the lightweight limit and, in connection with this, lost his champion belt. As a result, the fight was held in intermediate weight, and the title was at stake only for Gutierrez - the confrontation between them lasted all five rounds, and as a result, the judges split the decision to give Jones victory.

Ultimate Fighting Championship

With a record of 12 victories and not a single defeat, Brett Jones attracted the attention of the largest fighting organization in the world Ultimate Fighting Championship and entered into a long-term agreement with it. He made his debut in the UFC octagon in November 2016, winning by unanimous decision against the South Korean fighter Kwak Kwan Ho [2] [3] .

In March 2017, a battle was planned against the Englishman Ian Intuistle , but during the weigh-in he showed a significant excess of the limit of the lightest weight category. He was deprived of 20% of the fee and still tried to enter the battle, but the next day his condition worsened - he was taken to the hospital, and the battle did not take place. Later, Jones was offered as a rival the Canadian Mitch Gagnon , they were supposed to meet at the July tournament in Glasgow, but ultimately the organizers replaced Ganyon with the American Albert Morales , whom Jones successfully defeated by a unanimous referee decision [4] [5] .

In December 2017, in the underscore of the final tournament of the reality show The Ultimate Fighter went into octagon against the American veteran Joe Soto - already in the thirtieth second of the first round, Jones forced Soto to surrender, having performed a rather rare pain in mixed martial arts with the lower leg (this was only second victory in this trick in the history of the UFC). The Welshman also received a bonus for the best performance of the evening. Thanks to this victory, he climbed to the 13th line of the UFC bantamweight rating [6] [7] .
