Biography
Al-Hassan succeeded his brother Abu Zayan III in 1550 . By this time, some of the possessions of Abdalvadids were already under the rule of the Spaniards, and some (including Algeria ) were in the hands of the pirate Khaira ad-Din Barbarossa , who recognized himself Ottoman vassal. His brother Abu Zayan came to power under the banner of war with the Christians (the Spaniards supported their elder brother Abu Zayan and al-Hassan, Abu Abdullah VI ), a pro-Ottoman sentiment was strong among the nobility.
In 1551, the Moroccans briefly captured Mostaghanem and Tlemcen , but as soon as their army was withdrawn to their homeland, the Turks liberated Mostaghanem and restored the emir of Tlemcen. The dating of these events by the year 1551 is uncertain. The Turks were arrogant and down upon the Arabs.
In 1554 it was rumored that al-Hassan contacted the Spaniards from Oran, counting on their help in expelling the Turks, and the Salih Reis (1552-1556) Balerbey immediately provoked an uprising. The assembly of ulamas was forced to declare al-Hassan a traitor and unworthy of the throne. At the beginning of 1555, al-Hassan had to leave Tlemcen forever and go to Oran, where Count Alcaudete (Spanish governor in 1538-1858) replaced Alonso de Cordoba y Fernandez de Velasco, also Count Alcaudete. The Spaniards welcomed the deposed Emir and gave him shelter. Since 1555, Tlemcen was actually ruled by the Turkish Agha .
Al-Hassan died in Oran from the plague in 1558 . He left a son who was baptized under the name of Carlos and received land from the emperor Charles V in Castile .
