Levy (Louis [4] ) Ginsberg ( 1873 , Kovno , Coven Province , Russian Empire - 1953 , New York , USA ) - American rabbi of Russian origin, commentator of the Talmud (Talmudist), editor of the rabbinical department of the American 12- languid " Jewish Encyclopedia " (Jewish Encyclopedia; ed. 1901-1906) [4] . He is now recognized as an American researcher of early rabbinical literature and a prominent figure in conservative Judaism [5] .

Biography and Activities
Levi Ginsberg was born in Kovn (now Kaunas ) in 1873, studied in Telsh and Kovn under the leadership of Blaser ; received a general education at the Frankfurt gymnasium and Berlin , Strasbourg and Heidelberg universities [4] .
In 1899 he moved to the United States. In 1900-1903 he was the editor of the rabbinical department in the Jewish Encyclopedia , and then he occupied the chair of the Talmud in the New York Jewish theological seminary , where he taught until his death. [four]
