Track
The current racing ring has a length of 3.167 km . The track is located on the streets of Long Beach - around the center of the Conventions .
One of the characteristic parts of the route is the start / finish curve, passing along the promenade lined with palm trees .
Competition
In addition to the main competition, which in recent years is the Izod IndyCar series race, the organizers periodically draw the stages of other series onto the track:
- since 1989, the circuit has been carrying out stages either one or both of the main junior racing series on open-wheel cars in the USA (in 1989-2008, Formula Atlantic racers competed here annually, and from 2009 Indy Lights took its place (already previously held its stages here in 1989-2001)).
- In 1990-1991, the IMSA GT was held in Long Beach,
- in 2006 - the stage of Grand Am ,
- since 2007 - ALMS stage.
In addition to all this, since 1977, the track has hosted the charity Toyota Pro / Celebrity Race .
2008 year. Long Beach Separate Weekend / Motegi
The negotiations on the merger of Champ Car and IRL, which ended before the start of the 2008 season, rested on only one discrepancy in the calendar - the Long Beach Grand Prix of the Champ Car series and Indy Japan 300 IRL series could not be parted by week. Heads of the series Tony George and Gerald Forsyth have agreed on a separate weekend for the series - IRL racers will start in Japan , and Champ Car racers in the USA . The participation of one of the riders in both races was excluded, despite the fact that physically it was possible - the Japanese race was held on Saturday morning, and the American race on Sunday evening. For each of the races, standard points were awarded for the IRL IndyCar series. The Long Beach Grand Prix formally became the last race in Champ Car history.
Drift
Since the 2005 Grand Prix draw, the stage of the popular American Formula D drift series has also been included in the competition program.
