He graduated from Kharkov INO (1932), since 1934, a researcher at the Institute of Geological Sciences of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR ; in 1956–73 - director, in 1973–76 - head of department of the Institute of Mineral Resources . The main works of Yurka on the issues of geology and mineralogy of the Ukrainian Shield , the genesis and prospects of using various types of mineral raw materials.
Among the students of Yuri Yurievich - a famous geologist, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Yevgeny Shnyukov .
