August Rauber ( German: August Rauber ; 1841 - 1917 ) - German anatomist and histologist.
He was educated at the University of Munich , where in 1865 he defended his thesis for a doctorate in medicine about the bodies of Vater Pacini in the ligaments and periosteum. In 1869 he underwent a habilitation and since 1872 he was a prosector at the University of Basel (according to the Brockhaus and Efron Encyclopedic Dictionary, since 1869 he was a prosector at the University of Leipzig ), and since 1873 he was an extraordinary professor at the University of Leipzig.
Since 1886, he was a professor at the University of St. George at the Department of Anatomy, which he headed for 25 years. During this period, he organized an exemplary anatomical educational museum in Dorpat (opened in 1890), wrote a multivolume textbook of anatomy, which received world fame and was repeatedly reprinted (the 19th edition was published in Stuttgart in 1955). His 8th edition in six volumes, edited by Kopch (F. Kopsch), was released in 1910–1915. translated into Russian, edited by A. S. Dogel .
He retired as a distinguished professor at the university.
The scientific works of Rauber are devoted to macro- and microscopic anatomy, anthropology, embryology, teratology, general morphology. He was given the exact topography of the Fater - Pacini bodies in the skin of the limbs, the presence of 2 and 3 coccygeal nerves was shown, the forms of neurocytes in the ganglia of the head were described, the stage of neurula was distinguished in embryonic development, the outer cell layer, not related to the ectoderm, was described in the germinal disk, which received name "Rauber layer". Rauber was the first to use the serial section technique to study the developing mammalian egg.
