Kansky, Vasily Antonovich

Vasily ( Wilhelm [1] ) Antonovich Kansky ( November 16 [28], 1849 , the Moravian Brand , the Austrian Empire - after 1921, Rostov-on-Don ) - a Russian scientist and government official of Czech origin, a real state adviser , linguist , philologist and translator , teacher ; Director of the Vologda Provincial Men's Gymnasium , Inspector of Press in Rostov-on-Don , military censor [2] .

Biography

He successfully graduated from Charles University in Prague, after which, driven by the idea of pan-Slavism, he came to the Russian Empire and in 1875 accepted Russian citizenship [1] .

November 11, 1875 entered the public service [3] . He held the position of director of the Vologda provincial male gymnasium and was a member of the Vologda district committee on national sobriety. In addition, he was the chairman of the board of the welfare society for needy students of the Vologda Gymnasium and a member of the board of the welfare society of needy students of the Vologda Mariinsky Gymnasium. [4] . Around 1888-1889 he served as a teacher of the Seventh Gymnasium in St. Petersburg [5] .

On June 28, 1907, Vasily Antonovich was assigned to the Ministry of the Interior and was seconded to the General Directorate for Press Affairs of the Russian Empire [6] . On July 17 of the same year, he was sent to Rostov-on-Don as an acting inspector of press affairs, and on January 1, 1908 he was granted the rank of full state councilor [3] with approval in office [7] . In April 1917, in connection with the liquidation of the department, Vasily Antonovich Kansky was relieved of his post.

During the civil war of 1917-1922. Kansky worked as a teacher in Rostov-on-Don and soon died [1] .

During his service, V. A. Kansky was awarded the orders of St. Vladimir 4th degree (1903), St. Anna 2nd degree (1900) and St. Stanislav 2nd degree (1894) [3] .

As a member of the Society of Classical Philology and Pedagogy , he participated in the translation and editing of the Real Dictionary of Classical Antiquities by Friedrich Lubker [8] .
