MacMafia

McMafia ( Eng. McMafia ) is an Anglo-American television series co-produced by BBC and AMC [1] . The plot is based on the book by British journalist Misha Glenni “MacMafia: Seriously Organized Crime” [2] , published in 2008. The premiere of the series took place on January 1, 2018. [3] . The series has been extended to the second season [4] .

Story

Alex Godman, the son of a former Russian mafia boss who emigrated from Russia, who grew up in the UK , is trying to distance himself from his parents' past [1] . However, it again overtakes him, and Alex is forced to face not only Russian gangsters, but also Mexican and Pakistani drug dealers, Balkan smugglers [5] .

Production

BBC announced the beginning of work on the series in October 2015 [6] . In April 2016, it was announced that the main role will be played by actor James Norton , and the director will be one of the authors of the script, James Watkins . The definition of Russian actors Alexey Serebryakov and Maria Shukshina as well as David Streytern on the role of the parents of Norton as the Israeli businessman Kleiman was announced in November 2016 [7] . The series was filmed in London , Croatia [1] , Qatar , Mumbai , Cairo , Belgrade , Belize , Istanbul , Tel Aviv [8] , Moscow [9] . The budget of each series was several million pounds [10] .

Alex Godman, the son of Russian immigrants, was educated at a private school in Britain and created an investment fund from scratch. However, information appears in the press that the money of the Russian mafia, whose godfather was once his father, passes through his foundation. Lyudmila comes to Cairo to work as a beautician in one of the hotels. In fact, the girl falls into the hands of pimps who take her to Israel. At the end of the chain she finds herself with Tanya, Kleiman's assistant, who has her own plans for a beautiful Russian girl.

Dmitry hard going through grief. His addiction to alcohol and a sense of guilt for what happened lead to tragic consequences.

Having misled Rebecca, Antonio Mendez meets Alex. It is in his interest to use Godman Capital for money laundering. He also wants to propose a deal to Kleiman and invites Alex to discuss the details in the south of France. There he backs up his proposal with an unexpected argument.

Kalyagin loses money on Prague operations. He and his daughter go to Prague, where, while the girl is walking, trying to find out who bought the Czech authorities, who covered his illegal activities.

Oksana learns about the betrayal of Dmitry and goes to a frank conversation with his mistress.

Reviews

The start of the series on the first day of 2018 received mostly positive reviews from critics. [11] The Guardian described the series as “superbly done,” and also noted “a sense of expectation that more strength and energy will soon be released.” [12]

The Telegraph review of the second series notes a complex, but not overly twisted plot, a “mysterious” performance of the role of Alex by James Norton and an abundance of locations. [13]

Some publications say that if the rumors about the choice of Norton as the next James Bond are correct, then this series is his pass to the world of agent 007. There are also numerous comparisons with “ Night Administrator ” (2016, directed by Suzanne Beer ) in terms of the scale of the project, criminal subjects and visual parts. [eleven]
