VNIIGIS

The history of PJSC NPP VNIIGIS began on February 29, 1956, when the Volga-Ural branch of the Research Institute of Geophysical Methods of Exploration (VUF NIIGR) was established. In August of the same year, in connection with the renaming of the parent enterprise, it was transformed into the Volga-Ural branch of VNIIGeofiziki (VUF VNIIGeofiziki).

In 1972, the branch was transformed into an independent institute - the All-Union Research and Design Institute of Geophysical Research of Exploration Wells - VNIIGIS .

In 1982, on the basis of the Kalinin branch of VNIIGIS ( Tver ), formed in 1977 from the Kalinin Geophysical Expedition (CGE), the Institute VNIGIK was created, and then the NPO Soyuzpromgeofizika.

In the early 1990s, parallel structures — small enterprises with limited liability — began to be created in the departments (in almost all the main areas of VNIIGIS activity).

Since December 26, 1995, the institute acquired the status of Joint-Stock Company Scientific-Production Enterprise (OJSC NPP VNIIGIS). In 2005, the state put up VNIIGIS for sale and small enterprises bought its share from the state (more than 70%) in the institute. In 2016, the institute was renamed to PJSC NPP VNIIGIS ^[2] .

PJSC NPP VNIIGIS has a laboratory base, a metrology center, pilot production, a testing station and special units for geophysical work ^[3] . Number of employees (2011): 278 people, including 151 research associates, including 2 doctors and 24 candidates of sciences ^[4] .

The company is engaged in the development of geophysical methods and modern instrumental and methodological complexes for the study of exploration wells and the implementation of production work at the fields ^[6] .

The company has completed more than 300 development projects of geophysical equipment and machinery, and developed 75 technologies for well testing. More than 800 copyright certificates and patents for inventions were received, over 2,600 scientific works were published.

The enterprise cooperates with research institutes and centers of Russia, Belarus, Germany, Kazakhstan, Canada, China, Ukraine, Japan and others ^[7] .

Now the newly created industrial cluster “Kvant” is being registered, which includes fourteen enterprises, mainly October enterprises, coming from VNIIGIS. There are high expectations associated with this cluster, first of all, in the field of state, including republican co-financing in resolving some issues ^[8] .

VNIIGIS won the regional stage of the competition for the national award in the field of entrepreneurial activity “Golden Mercury” at the end of 2016 in the nomination “The best exporter enterprise in the field of industrial production” ^[10] .
