Creation History
The song is written by composer Marvin Hamlish (1973). The words were written by Alan and Marilyn Bergman. The song became Barbra Streisand's first single. The composition was a huge success just like the film. She led the US sales chart for three weeks. The composition takes 8th place in the list of 100 best songs from American films for 100 years according to AFI [2] [3] .
Initially, the song began with the words Daydreams light the corners of your mind .., but Barbra Streisand insisted on replacing the first word with the word Memories [4] .
Streisand released the album of the same name in January 1974 [5] .
The song is also mentioned in such famous television series as Sex and the City and Friends [6] .
Rewards
The song was awarded the Academy Award for the best song for the film (1974), Golden Globe Award for the best original song (1974), and a Grammy Award for the best song of the year (1975) [7] . In 2008, the single was inducted into the Grammy Award Hall of Fame .
