Nephew of Giovanni Battista Gilardi (1755-1819) [2] . He studied with his father Josue Gilardi and cousin Domenico Gilardi . In 1822 , at the age of fourteen, he moved from Ticino to Moscow , where he worked together with his cousin Domenico. Since 1827 he was an assistant to the architect, participated in the reconstruction of the Sloboda Palace of Crafts for orphans of the imperial Educational Home , the construction of which was carried out in 1828-1832. After leaving in 1832, Domenico Gilardi from Moscow, Alessandro completed construction for him in the estates of Otrad and Kuzminki . In 1838 he was appointed junior architect of the Commission for the construction of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior . In 1847 he left Moscow, moving to Milan.
Among his works are city and public buildings, churches and suburban estates. Alessandro's early works in the style of late classicism are empire, and later ones are local eclecticism, popular during the reign of Nicholas I. According to the design of Alessandro Gilardi:
