Sergey Ivanovich Kuznetsov ( November 4 [17], 1900 , Moscow - February 27, 1987 , Moscow ) - Russian scientist, microbiologist , corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences ( 1960 ), holder of the Order of Lenin and the Order of the Red Banner of Labor , laureate of the USSR State Prize ( 1985 ) , Laureate of the Naumann Medal of the International Limnological Society (1971).

Biography
Sergei Ivanovich Kuznetsov was born in the family of artist-architect Ivan Sergeyevich Kuznetsov in Moscow. Official biographies contain the wrong place of birth (the village of Poretskoye ) and origin “from the peasants” - these changes were made after the revolution in order to get higher education in conditions of discrimination against children of the Russian intelligentsia. The peasant from the village of Poretskoy was in fact the father of Kuznetsov.
In 1923 he graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Department of Moscow University . One of the first employees of the Department of Microbiology of Moscow State University , in 1942-1943 he served as the head of the department in Moscow. In 1931-1941 he headed the laboratory at the limnological station in Kosino , in 1941-1946 he headed the laboratory at the wastewater treatment plant in Lyubertsy . He headed the laboratory at the Institute of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR since 1942. Creator and head of the microbiology laboratory at the Institute of Biology of Inland Waters of the USSR Academy of Sciences in Bork .
Kuznetsov mainly worked in the field of water microbiology (microbiological processes as the main factor in the oxygen regime of lakes; the role of microorganisms in the circulation of substances in lakes; the use of radioactive isotopes of carbon and sulfur to study the intensity of the processes of circulation of substances in water bodies) and the geological activity of microorganisms (in oil fields, during the formation and destruction of deposits of sulfur and sulfide ores).
He was buried at the Moscow Vvedensky cemetery .
