The survey on the Golden Ball ( Fr. Ballon d'or ) in 1958 was conducted for the third time. The voting results were published in number 666 France Football December 16, 1958. The jury consisted of 16 sports journalists from the following football associations included in UEFA : Austria , England , Belgium , Hungary , Spain , Italy , the Netherlands , Portugal , Turkey , France , Germany , Czechoslovakia , Switzerland , Sweden , Scotland and Yugoslavia .
The winner of the vote was the Frenchman Raymond Kopa . He beat Hellmuth Rahn and Just Fontaine .
Voting System
Each of the jury members chose five players who, in his opinion, were the best footballers in Europe. The first place got 5 points, the second - four, the third - three, the fourth - two, and the fifth - one point. Thus, there were 240 points in the rally; maximum player could get 80 points.
