Final
The final in the men's 1,500-meter race was held on March 7, 1982 [2] . The current two-time European champion Thomas Wessinghage could not defend his title, finishing in fourth place. Jose Luis González became the first Spaniard to win a gold medal in the 1,500-meter race at the European Winter Championships. To defeat compatriot Jose Manuel Abascal, he needed to set a new national record - 3.38.70.
