Since 1904, he has won 134 titles in almost every sport. In the same year, he wrote the book My System, the first in a series of gymnastics textbooks, which quickly became a bestseller. The book was translated into 24 languages, and only the German translation reached 400,000 copies by 1925. Müller was close to the naturist movement and published the book “My book in the open air” [2] , as well as “My system for women” and “My system for children”.

The system he developed did not need technical aids and could be implemented by any person without a lot of time. Various exercises could be performed in the apartment, but Müller recommended performing them outdoors, for example, in front of an open window or outside.

He was a staunch opponent of the bodybuilding that appeared in his time, in the form in which it was mainly promoted by Evgeny Sandov [3] . The Muller system was less focused on muscle strength and muscle building, but more on overall fitness and flexibility. It was designed for all ages. All organs of the body, including the skin, for which Muller provided for a different degree of requirements, had to be strengthened and saturated with blood. Mueller was proud that doctors also recommended his “system” and that the Italian translation of books was developed by doctors. It goes without saying that he attached great importance to physical hygiene, which he also made popular, starting with the book Hygienic Advice (1907).

In addition, Muller was also one of the first modern sports journalists. The fact that he often accompanied his notes with the pseudonym Apoxyomen , highlighting his body, thereby showing his merits as “the most beautiful man,” sometimes gave rise to ridicule.

In 1919, Muller was awarded the Danish King Christian X Order of Dannebrog .

Although some of the exercises developed by Müller are outdated today, he can still be considered one of the founders of the modern fitness movement.
