Biography
Born on December 10, 1939 in the town of Yeysk, Krasnodar Territory, in the family of a soldier. In 1957 he entered the Far Eastern State University , and from that moment his fate was inextricably linked with the biology and soil faculty of the university. In 1962, he entered graduate school at the Department of Zoology, and three years later he defended his PhD thesis “Parasitic worms of land vertebrates on the continental coast of the Sea of Okhotsk”. After the death of A. A. Sobolev, he began to specialize in free-living marine nematodes . In 1982 he defended his doctoral thesis "Organization, evolution, systematics of onholymin and some general questions of the nematode morphology." The materials of this dissertation formed the basis of two monographs written jointly with his wife, Lyudmila Semenovna Belogurova (1938–2015). From 1979 to 1993 - Head of the Department of Zoology at the Far Eastern State University; from 1984 to 1993 - Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Soil Sciences at the Far Eastern State University. Described more than 70 new species of free-living and parasitic worms. He dealt with issues of evolutionary morphology, developed a course of lectures on comparative and evolutionary morphology of animals (the textbook “Fundamentals of evolutionary morphology” remained unpublished).
