Biography

Born on January 29, 1969 in Sisak. At school he was fond of sports [1] . In December 1990, he voluntarily enrolled in the militarized police units of the Republic of Croatia, since February 1991 an employee of the Sisak Police Department.

On June 10, 1991, the command was transformed into the 2nd Infantry Battalion of the 2nd Brigade of the Croatian National Guard (later the 2nd Guards Motorized Brigade), and Matanovic was appointed commander of the 1st Company of the 2nd Battalion for personal qualities, and soon took post of deputy battalion commander. A participant in the battles on Banovina, in the vicinity of the cities of Clay, Dragotinac, Kozibrod, Komarevo, Blinsky Kut, Slana and Glinska Polyana.

During the war against the Republika Srpska, Kraina Matanovic participated in operations of the Croatian armed forces in the Dubrovack direction (Operation Tiger), Zadarsko-Novigrad (Operation Maslenitsa, position defense) and Liksky (Operation Storm). During the operation "Tiger", which took place in 1992, he was seriously injured, but after treatment he returned to duty and led the 2nd Infantry Battalion. Co-workers was considered a role model in terms of military and moral-volitional qualities [1] . He graduated from the school of officers at the Croatian military school named after Petar Zrinsky in Zagreb during the war.

On August 4, 1995, he died during a battle near the town of Kolonia on the way to Petrinia: the 2nd Guards Brigade attacked the positions of the army of the Serbian Krajina near Petrini. Matanovich was wounded by a sniper in his hand, and at the height of the battle he was mortally wounded by a fragmentation shell [1] . After the war, his name was assigned to the barracks of the Armed Forces of Croatia in Petrin, and in 2015 in Petrin the street was named after Predrag Matanovich [2] . The military rank during his life is a colonel, posthumously promoted to brigadier.

After death, the widow Natalia and the son of Leonardo remained [1] .
