Jaruman ( Eng. Jaruman ) or Jarumann ( Eng. Jarumann ; died in 669 ?) Is the fourth bishop of Mercia (662–667). [1] [2] He was probably born in Ireland , but was educated in England, in Lindisfarne . He served as bishop during the time of King Mercia Wulfher . He fought against apostasy outside his diocese, undertaking several missions on behalf of King Wulfher to the Saxon tribes, who returned to paganism . [3] [4]

Some researchers of the work of J.R. R. Tolkien believe that the name of Yaruman prompted the writer to the name for Saruman in his trilogy “ The Lord of the Rings ”. [five]
