Childhood

Demis was born and raised in North London, in the family of a Greek Cypriot and Chinese mother from Singapore. Playing chess as a child, Khasabis was a chess prodigy , at the age of 13 had an Elo rating of 2300 points, ranking fifth in the world among young men under 14 [2] , led many English youth chess teams.

Career

Lionhead

After graduating from Cambridge, Demis worked for a while at Lionhead . In particular, he was a leading programmer in creating gaming artificial intelligence for the game Black & White .

Elixir Studios

In 1998, Khasabis left Lionhead and founded the Elixir Studios campaign, an independent London-based computer game developer. Demis was the executive designer for games like Republic: The Revolution and Evil Genius .

Cognitive Neurobiology

He earned a doctorate in cognitive neurobiology from University College London, and he drew inspiration from the human brain for new AI algorithms. Working in the field of studying the mechanisms of memory and amnesia, he co-authored several important scientific articles published in such authoritative scientific journals as Nature , Science , Neuron and PNAS .

DeepMind

In 2010, Khasabis founded the DeepMind artificial intelligence research campaign. In 2014, Google bought DeepMind for £ 400 million, although the company remains an independent legal entity based in London. Since its acquisition by Google, DeepMind, under the leadership of Hassabis, has made significant achievements in creating self-learning neural networks , the most famous of which are AlphaGo , AlphaZero and AlphaStar .
