Biography
He graduated from Harvard University (Bachelor of Chemistry and Physics, 1961), where he initially entered English [2] . Masters and Ph.D. degrees, both in meteorology, received respectively in 1962 and 1966 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology , and in 1966-1968 an associate researcher there.
In 1968-1990 he worked at the in Boulder, where he headed the climate section since 1975, and since 1981 was deputy director of the climate and global dynamics department.
In 1990-1999, professor at the University of Arizona , regent professor since 1993.
In 1999-2008, Professor of Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology .
Since 2008, a professor at the University of Texas at Austin at the Department of Geological Sciences.
In 2002-2004 President of the American Geophysical Union .
Member of the National Academy of Sciences (1988) and the Academy of Engineering (2002) of the United States. Fello of the American Geophysical Union (1987) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (1984). Honorary Member of the European Geophysical Society (2002) and the European Union of Earth Sciences (2004). Professor Emeritus, Beijing Normal University (2005).
