Vladimir Nikolaevich Matviychuk (born December 29, 1982 , Berdichev ) - Ukrainian boxer , representative of light and first medium weight categories. He played for the national boxing team of Ukraine in the late 2000s - mid 2010s, the champion of the national championship, the winner and medalist of international tournaments, the bronze medalist of the European Championship, the participant of the summer Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro . Since 2017, he has been boxing among professionals.

Biography

Vladimir Matviychuk was born on December 29, 1982 in the city of Berdichev, Zhytomyr Region, Ukrainian SSR . After graduation, he entered the Zhytomyr State Technological University, where he studied at the faculties of economics and physical culture.

He began to actively engage in boxing from early childhood, was trained under the guidance of honored coaches of Ukraine Igor Anatolyevich Matviychuk and Sergey Afanasyevich Staschenko, was in the boxing clubs Kozak and Dinamo Kolos [1] .

Amateur career

For the first time he made himself known in 2006, becoming the bronze medalist of the Ukrainian Championship and speaking at the World Championship among military personnel in Germany. Soon he became a member of the Ukrainian national team - from that moment he regularly participated in various international tournaments and match meetings. So, in 2007, in a match meeting with the Russian national team, he met with Olympic champion Alexei Tishchenko , giving him points. In 2008, he won the gold medal in the standings of the Ukrainian national championship.

He achieved the greatest success in the international arena in the season of 2011, when he visited the European Championship in Ankara and brought back a bronze medal award won in the lightweight category - it was stopped by the Italian Domenico Valentino at the semifinals stage.

In the period 2015–2016, he was in the boxing team “ Ukrainian Atamans ”, playing in the semi-professional league of WSB . Here, among other things, prevailed over the Russian Grigory Lazunenko . He also entered the ring against titled Cuban Yasniel Toledo , but lost to him.

Thanks to a series of successful performances, he won the right to defend the country's honor at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro , but did not achieve much success here, already in the starting light welterweight match, was defeated by Azerbaijan representative Lorenzo Sotomayor , who eventually won the silver medal. At the end of these competitions, Vladimir Matviychuk decided to leave amateur Olympic boxing, giving way to the team of young Ukrainian boxers [2] [3] .

Professional career

In 2017, Vladimir Matviychuk decided to try himself among professionals and successfully debuted at a professional level.
