History
The construction of the palace of Phra Ram Ratchanivet was begun in 1910 by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) as a royal country residence. Here the king intended to spend the rainy season. However, in the same year Chulalongkorn passed away. Construction was completed in 1916 during the reign of his successor, King Vachiravuda , who gave him the name Phra Ram Ratchaniwet.
Currently, the palace of Phra Ram Ratchanivet occupies the headquarters of the Royal Thai Army. The building refers to the architectural and historical monuments of Thailand [1] .
Architecture
The palace was modeled on the palace of the German Kaiser Wilhelm by the German architect Karl Siegfried Dering (Döhring; 1879-1941), who also designed a number of other royal palaces in Thailand. The palace is a two-story building in the style of German modern (“Jugendstil”). The palace is rectangular in plan, has a high roof roof , semi-circular windows. On the ground floor of the building there is a dining room and a throne room, made in yellow colors. Spiral staircase to the second floor of the building is decorated with green tiles. On the second floor there is a library, a royal bathroom and a bedroom. At one time, a volleyball court was located in the courtyard of the building, and now there is a fountain with figures of people and animals. The palace surrounds the garden.
In front of the main entrance to the palace is a statue of King Rama V. On the four sides of the pedestal are guns.
