Zhvinis, Jonas

Jonas виvinis ( lit. Jonas Žvinys ; December 17, 1901, Aktapolis , now the Moletsky district , Lithuania - February 10, 1994, Vilnius ) - a priest, a Lithuanian collaborator , during the Holocaust involved in the killing of 1,200 Jews [2] [3] . In 1941 he was commander of the guerrilla rebel Molyatskaya parish, Commander of the Order of the Cross Vitis [4] . Biography

Jonas виvinis was born in 1901 . He studied at the Vilnius Gymnasium , but did not graduate [4] . In 1918 he volunteered for the front and fought with the Poles under Sirvintai and Gedraychiai [4] . In 1930 he became a priest. From 1939 he began to serve as pastor in the village of Dubingiai [4] .

After the German attack on the Soviet Union , together with Lubartas Klamas and Budris Jeronimas, a gang of armed nationalists formed [4] . Since July 1941, members of this gang arrested Jews, and on August 29, 1941, a gang shot about 1,200 Jews [4] .

In 1947, he was arrested and served his sentence in camps for 10 years [4] .

He died in 1994. In 1999, President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus posthumously awarded виvinis with the Order of the Cross of Vytis [4] [3] , before information about his past surfaced.

He wrote the book “Notes of my life” ( lit. Mano gyvenimo užrašai ) with anti-Semitic views [4] .

After the scandal erupted, Stasys виvinis decided to withdraw from the discussion [2] and the renaming and monument did not take place.
