Ohio State University is a public research university based in Columbus , Ohio . The third largest US university, after Arizona State University and the University of Central Florida [2] [3] .

History
The institution was founded in 1870 on the basis as an agricultural technical college. The building was originally located in a rural community located on the northern outskirts of Columbus . Although it was expected that the university would be focused on teaching disciplines related to the agricultural sector, the institution became a university by the efforts of Governor Rutherford Hayes , and on September 17, 1873, the first 24 students were already admitted to the university. In 1878, the first graduation, consisting of six men; the first woman graduated from the university the following year . In 1878 he received the final name - “The Ohio State University” (with the article “ The ” in its official name [4] ).
In 1880, graduate school was opened. In 1891, the Law School - Moritz College of Law was founded. Later, colleges of medicine, dentistry, optometry, veterinary medicine, trade and journalism were founded.
Although development was hampered in the 1870s by competition with the University of Miami (Ohio) , the problems were ultimately resolved. In 1916, the university became a member of the Association of American Universities .
