History
The village is named after Antoine Wilmett, a French missionary who persuaded the Native American people to sign an agreement ( Second Treaty of Prairie du Chien ) with the US government in 1829 . Under this agreement, the Indians left the modern territory of Wilmett in exchange for reservations in western Illinois .
There have been proposals to join Wilmett to Evanston . At the first referendum of 1894, the proposal was not supported with a score of 168-165, other proposals also did not find support [2] [3] .
