Igor Fedorovich Momot ( Ukrainian: Igor Fedorovich Momot ; August 18, 1965 - July 11, 2014 ) - Ukrainian military leader, major general (rank awarded posthumously) of the State Border Service of Ukraine [1] , Hero of Ukraine (posthumous). Head of the Training Center for Junior Specialists of the State Border Service of Ukraine ( Cherkasy , Orshanets village), head of the motor-maneuver group of the State Border Service, deputy head of the Eastern Regional Department of the State Border Service of Ukraine.

Biography
Service in the USSR
Born on August 18, 1965 in Tiraspol (Moldavian SSR, now unrecognized Transnistrian Moldavian Republic ). He graduated in 1986 from the Sverdlovsk Higher Military-Political Tank-Artillery School [2] , sent to serve in the Red Banner Central Asian border district of the KGB of the USSR. He began his service in the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan as the deputy chief for political affairs of the mortar battery of the 1st motor-driven group Meimene of the 47th Kerkin Border Detachment. Later - the assistant to the chief of the political department for Komsomol work of the 47th Kerkin border detachment, he held office until 1990. In February 1990, as part of a group of political workers of the Red Banner Central Asian Border District of the KGB of the USSR, he served in Baku and Nakhichevan , for which he was twice awarded the medal "For Distinction in the Protection of the State Border of the USSR." From 1990 to 1992, the deputy chief for political affairs of the 1st border detachment (Shiram district) [3] . He served in the USSR on June 12, 1992 [2] .
Service in Ukraine
June 12, 1992 Igor Momot moved to the State Border Service of Ukraine. He served as commandant of the Podolsky border detachment, chief of the Izmail border detachment (commanded 3.5 years). He graduated in 1997 from the Academy of Border Troops of Ukraine, in 2006 - from the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management [2] . Since December 12, 2007, the head of the Training Center for Junior Specialists of the State Border Service of Ukraine [2] . Deputy chief of operational management in the central office of the State Border Service of Ukraine ( Kiev ).
War in Southeastern Ukraine
After complicating the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border, Igor Momot formed and headed the moto-maneuver group at the Training Center for use in the most vulnerable sections of the state border. Since May 31, 2014, Deputy Head of the Eastern Regional Directorate of the Border Service of Ukraine. He participated in battles against the armed groups of the DPR in the area of Dmitrovka , Marinovka and Amvrosievka .
On July 11, 2014, in the Zelenopol region, at the positions of a stronghold of the Ukrainian forces, there were units of the 24th separate mechanized , 72nd separate mechanized and the 79th separate airmobile brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as a motorized maneuver group of border guards of the Luhansk region. At about 4:30 in the morning a missile strike was launched at these positions, presumably from the BM-21 Grad MLRS, which belonged to armed groups of the DPR. Igor Momot, who was at the “Dolzhansky” checkpoint, died as a result of the attack, receiving a fatal shrapnel wound [4] [5] .
On July 12, 2014, by decree of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Igor Fedorovich Momot was posthumously awarded the rank of Major General, and it was also announced the assignment of one of the border posts of Ukraine named after Igor Momot [6] .
April 29, 2019 by decree of President Poroshenko awarded the title Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Order of the Golden Star (posthumous) [7] [8] .
Memory
- The street of Major General Momota appeared in the village of Russkaya Polyana, Cherkasy region [9] .
- Since October 7, 2014, the Training Center for the Training of Junior Specialists of the State Border Service of Ukraine has been named after Major General Igor Momot [10] .
- School number 26 of the city of Cherkasy (Marshal Batitsky Street, 15) bears the name of I.F. Momot, a memorial museum and a memorial tablet are also opened there.
- Since November 20, 2015, by decision of the Kharkiv City Council, Third International Street has been named after General Igor Momot.
- Since February 19, 2016 in Izmail, the former Shaumyan Street by the decision of the mayor bears the name of General Momot [11] .
- Since June 27, 2016 in Cherkassy, one of the streets has been named after General Momot [12] .
- On August 24, 2016, a monument to Igor Momot was unveiled on the Glory Square in Cherkasy [13] .
- On December 7, 2016, the ship of the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company “Igor Momot” was launched at the Kilii Shipyard [14]
