Creativity
A. A. Shevchenko works in different techniques: engraving, watercolor , oil , pastel and gouache . He achieved a special skill in linocut technique, which could not be better suited to his chosen topics. In his creative manner reflected the best features of the Russian and Lithuanian art schools. He learned from the Ivanovo masters not only to create realistic images, but also to saturate them with creative pathos, thereby glorifying the working man. Lithuanian masters, in turn, showed the future artist a special approach to form, which combines rigor, accuracy and expressiveness.
In his work at different stages he experienced the influence of the “ severe style ” of the Soviet poster and the traditions of Russian printed graphics of the beginning of the twentieth century. The works of A. A. Shevchenko are distinguished by a laconic language, strictness of forms, attention to detail, and excellent mastery of technology. He writes genre compositions and domestic scenes, portraits, landscapes. The focus of his work is on the following topics: the formation of the Kaliningrad region , the life and life of the workers of the sea, the nature of the Kaliningrad region. Author of a series of linocutures: “Kolkhoz Fishermen” (1), “Kolkhoz Fishermen” (2), “Port”, “Builders”, “Monuments of Koenigsberg”, “Cosmos”, “Fishermen's Territory”, “Kaliningrad Region Rises”, “Coast” Baltika "," Past and Present "and others. Created a series of works in other techniques: pastel (" At Svetlovsk Ship Repair Plant "), a simple pencil (" At TsBK-1 "and" Izmiran "), gouache (" At Kaliningrad fish-canning Combine ").
All linocuts A. A. Shevchenko were printed in small editions: usually no more than 10 prints.
The main heroes of A. A. Shevchenko's works were people of working professions - those with whose direct participation on the site of the ruins of the German city of Königsberg grew the Soviet city of Kaliningrad . The most western edge of Russia acquired a new look in front of the artist. The restoration of the city after the war required tremendous efforts and the hard work of thousands of people. Their daily feat is captured in the graphic series of A. A. Shevchenko. Today, these works are not only artistic, but also historical value, because many details of the life of those years are forever gone.
The marine theme is one of the favorite ones in the artist's work: the harsh everyday life of sailors, ships in the port and in repair, fisheries and coastal landscapes. The life of the "workers of the sea", hard, but interesting and intense, was embodied in the images of harsh people pulling the nets working in the port, going into the open sea in a storm and storm. The picturesque landscapes of the Baltic coast occupy an equally important place in the works of A. A. Shevchenko.
He worked in the Kaliningrad art-production workshops, performed a number of works for printing - mock-ups for labels, posters, advertising brochures. Together with the architect A. V. Maximov, he executed a number of draft designs for the architectural and artistic design of lighting advertising, including for the Mayak department store and the Russia cinema. He created several monumental compositions in Kaliningrad and the region, including a monumental composition in the technique of three-layer graffiti on the theme “Cosmos” on the facade of a building on Cosmonaut Leonov Street. In collaboration with V. Mikhailovsky, he carried out a project for the architectural and artistic decoration of the Baltika restaurant and other objects. Illustrated several books, including a collection of short stories "When the Sea is Restless" (1975).
