History
The house was built between 1880 and 1885 [2] (according to other sources, it was 1883 [3] ). According to the plan, the house was supposed to be a haven for " former people ." The house itself was located between two extremes: on one side of it was a merchant street, where millions of transactions were made, on the other - "Milliosha", where mostly people wandered "at the bottom" of life.
It was planned that the house will accommodate no more than 700 people on one day (more precisely, night, since the premises were sanitized during the day), but in practice it turned out that it sometimes accommodated up to 1259 people. As a result of this, people had to sleep where necessary [2] . In 1885 - 1888 , in order for the lodging house to function, a tenement house was built. Benches in it were leased, and all income went to the needs of the rooming house.
After the 1920s, the overnight stay in the house was liquidated, and communal apartments were created in its place. Due to a landslide in the 1960s, part of the house was bombarded. This, together with illiterate [2] emergency work, led to the fact that the house began to choke. It was from this time that the intensive destruction of the house began, which was also facilitated by the tram opened in the 1920s near the house [1] . In the 1990s, the Department of Visas and Registration was located in the house [2] ; later it housed the Office of the Federal Migration Service of Russia in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.
In 2005, by the first celebration of National Unity Day, the roof of the house was repaired and redecorated [2] . In 2013, the house was bought by Felix Verkhovodov [2] .
Interesting Facts
The Bugrovs' dormitory house served as a prototype for an overnight stay from Gorky 's play “ At the Bottom ”. It is noteworthy that the real life of the rooming house was different from that described in the play, so the inscription “ Do not drink vodka! ” Was placed on the facade of the building . Do not sing songs! Be quiet! " [4] .
