About the album
The name of the album can be translated in meaning approximately as "Double smoothing over your past sins"; apparently, the group thus hinted that until that time in the almost 40-year history of the group, only a year earlier it had qualified for recording a live album from Live from Texas .
The album was released on two discs. The first of them, entitled “Anyway, then,” contains a recording of the band’s performance in Essen, Germany, for the Rockpalast television show on April 20, 1980. The second disc, titled "Almost Now", contains recordings of the band's performances in San Francisco (November 4, 2007), Paris (July 10, 2008) and Bixby ( Tulsa, Oklahoma , September 28, 2008). The second disc also has recordings of interviews, scenes backstage, etc.
Critics praised the release quite high. The first disc was praised for the freshness and ease of concert recordings of the era when ZZ Top did not yet become MTV megastars: “At first, it’s difficult to recognize singer / guitarist Billy Gibbons, as I’m used to seeing the gray-haired veteran of the scene, which he has become now. He with a fresh face behind his newly released beard, full of energy, runs around the stage, jumps up and down, and indeed, has a good time. Interaction with bassist Dusty Hill is full of humor, and this is not the idea that was later staged by the choreographer ... Drummer Frank Beard is cool as usual, stoically beating the drums, and giving out tons of power with a straight face ” [1] . But the second disc was also noted for its intimacy: the entire El Camino Ocho Tour tour was filmed, including concerts, interviews and daily life during the tour, on one semi-professional camera. [2]
In 2010, the shelves saw the release of Live in Germany 1980 , released on video in DVD format and audio in CD format and dual LP . This release was the first disc of Double Down Live's “Definitely Then” album, trimmed to 16 tracks.
