Player versus environment or PvE ( English player versus environment ), also occurs player versus monster or PvM ( English player versus monster ) - a term used in online games (mainly in the genres MMORPG , MUD and other online variations of computer role-playing games ), to indicate battles with computer-controlled enemies [1] as opposed to the term PvP (player versus player).
General characteristics
As a rule, playing in PvE mode is possible alone or together with other players or characters controlled by a computer. In PvE mode, the plot of the game may unfold as the player copes with the tasks. For example, in Guild Wars, the plot narration takes place during the demonstration of cut scenes to the player, as well as during dialogs with non-player characters . To improve the gaming experience of replay ( English replayability ), often tasks can be performed several times. Characters playing in this mode often have protection from killing by other players and / or from the looting of their property. An example of a game where there are no such measures is Eve Online , where a player can be PvP- destroyed by other players while he is on a mission. In other games, such as World of Warcraft , the player is offered a choice whether to participate in PvP in the open world, or to complete tasks without distraction on PvP, by playing on special servers or using temporary flags.
In MMORPG, the PvE process is almost always the only way to develop ("pump") a character. Here it can be noted that for killing a mobile NPC (the so-called mob ) experience points can be awarded (for which the player can buy new skills, improve existing ones, increase the character level, etc.), a certain amount of game currency , a certain item, etc. e. Many tasks of the adventure game also come down to achieving some goals in the player’s space against the environment.
The term has appeared and is most often used in the context of a massively multiplayer online role-playing game. , as well as just computer games .
