Hartwigson, Fritz

Fritz Seligman Hartwigson ( dates Frits Seligmann Hartvigson ; May 31, 1841 , - March 8, 1919 , Copenhagen ) is a Danish pianist and music teacher of Jewish origin [1] , who worked mainly in England.

He began to study music under the guidance of his mother, then studied in Copenhagen with Niels Gade , I.H. Gebauer and Anton Ree . He made his debut with concerts at the age of 14, at the age of 17 he made a tour of Norway. In 1859-1862 continued his performing education in Berlin under the guidance of Hans von Bülow ; Bulow’s proposal to study Hartwigson with Franz Liszt was not fulfilled.

In the years 1864-1911. He lived and worked in England (with a break for work in St. Petersburg in 1873-1875). In the 1860s regular participant of Saturday concerts in the Crystal Palace with the orchestras of Hans Richter and George Henschel . Since 1875, the court pianist of Princess of Wales Alexandra . From 1888 he was a professor at the Royal Academy of Music , then in 1905-1911. taught at the Royal College of Music .

Hartwigson performed a number of national premieres - in particular, the first in the United Kingdom to play the first piano concert of Franz Liszt and the fourth concert of Anton Rubinstein (both 1872), the concert of Hans Bronzart von Schellendorf (1876), "Dance of Death" Liszt (1878, with Bulow at the controls )
