Content
Story
High school student Simon hides his homosexuality from friends, but his correspondence with an anonymous lover falls into the wrong hands. School "clown" Martin threatens to expose Simon if he does not help him start an affair with a local beauty.

Production
Fox 2000 acquired the rights to adapt the novel on October 29, 2015 [14] . On September 6, 2016, Greg Berlanti was selected for the role of director [15] .
Filming
The main shootings began on March 6, 2017 in Atlanta , Georgia [16] . On March 21, Jennifer Garner was spotted filming [17] . On April 23, 2017, the filming was officially completed.
Marketing
On November 28, 2017, the first trailer was released [18] .
Soundtrack
The soundtrack to the film will include music by Bleachers, Troy Sivan , Amy Shark, Brenton Wood, The 1975 , Normanie Hamilton, Khalida and others. The first track released from the soundtrack was "Alfie's Song (Not So Typical Love Song)" by Bleachers [19] [20] .

Release
The premiere of the film took place at the Mardi Gras Film Festival February 27, 2018, and officially the film was released in the United States on March 16, 2018 by the 20th Century Fox studio. The film is historically significant in that it was the first ever film released by a major studio whose plot focuses on a teenage gay romance [21] [22] .
Criticism
Critics welcomed the film, many of which compared it to the teenage films of John Hughes [23] [24] [25] [26] [27] [28] . On the Rotten Tomatoes website , the film is rated 91% based on 92 reviews with an average rating of 7.4 out of 10 [29] . On the Metacritic website , the film has a rating of 73 out of 100 based on 35 reviews from critics, which corresponds to the status of “generally positive reviews” [30] .
