Robert Genrikhovich Eltsberg (also: Ernest-Robert-Heinrich Elzberg) [1] ( November 13, 1843 , Mitava - January 9, 1929 Tver ) - Russian forestry activist, current state adviser , head of the provincial Forest Committee in Tver, involved in forest conservation in the Upper Volga ; provincial vowel; in Soviet times, he was awarded the honorary title of Hero of Labor (1924 [2] ).

Biography
Robert Genrikhovich Elzberg was born in Mitau on November 13/13 , 1843 in the family of the titular adviser Heinrich Elzberg [3] (–1855) and Ottily Fabian (1815–1886) [4] who served in the Rennes forestry in the Courland province (territory of present-day Latvia ). He considered German his mother tongue until the end of his life, although he lived his whole life in Russia.
Robert Genrikhovich chose the work of his father as his working path: he graduated from the Imperial Forest Institute in St. Petersburg and went through the Forestry Department all the steps of the career ladder, from the lowest to the head of the provincial Forest Committee in Tver . He was involved in forest conservation throughout the Upper Volga .
The family moved several times:
- Petrozavodsk ,
- Vyatka (there Eltsberg headed the Vyatka State Property Office)
- Tver .
Robert Genrikhovich Elzberg had the rank of full state adviser ; until 1917, he was in Tver a provincial vowel (since 1891).
He was an avid hunter: even in Petrozavodsk he was a member of the board of the Hunters Society, and in Tver he became one of his three foremen and treasurer. Elzberg was known both as the author of scientific works, and as the inventor of mountain-taiga skis of an original design, in general, as a creative person with a wide range of interests. One of his hobbies was archeology - Robert Genrikhovich was in Tver a full member of the Society of Archeology and Natural History Lovers [5] .

- four sons and three daughters; two of the sons, Robert and Eugene, received a higher technical education and became mechanical engineers:
- Robert served as director of a paper mill in the Kaluga province,
- Eugene [6] - mechanical engineer at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg, where he wrote scientific papers on the construction of ship mechanisms.
- Daughter Olga graduated from the Higher Women's Natural Science Courses in the capital and taught geography and cosmography at the gymnasium.
- The daughter of Johann Elzberg (1882-1969) is the mother of Gleb Golubev , writer, journalist and publicist.
