Western Tibesti ( Arabic: Muqāṭaʿâtu Tibastī l-Ġarbī , مقاطعة تبستي الغربي , FR. Tibesti Ouest ) is one of the two departments of the administrative region of Tibesti in the Republic of Chad . Appeared in February 2008 after the division of the Tibesti department into East and West ^[1] ^[3] .

Among the 63 departments of Chad, Western Tibesti is the smallest in terms of population; according to the 2009 census, 11,096 people live here (6,088 men and 5,008 women) ^[2] .

Culture

During studies of African art in the territory occupied by Western Tibesti, rock art samples and petroglyphs of ancient Africa were found ^[6] ^[7] .
