Georgina Mary Mace (born July 12, 1953, London ) is a British ecologist and population biologist , a specialist in biodiversity . Member of the Royal Society of London (2002), professor at the University of London. Winner of the Heineken Prize (2016) and other distinctions.

The system of scientific criteria developed by J. Mays for ecosystems and species at risk was adopted in 2000 by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as the basis for the Red List of Endangered Species [2] .

Biography
She graduated from the University of Liverpool (Bachelor of Zoology, 1976). She received a Ph.D. in evolutionary biology with a comparative ecology of small mammals in 1979 from the University of Sussex (in 2007 she will be awarded an honorary doctorate). Then at the postdoc positions at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington and in Newcastle-upon-Tip, after which she returned to London.
