Biography

Born in Kosice, in what was then Czechoslovakia . He still lives in his hometown. After defending a PhD thesis in veterinary medicine, he continues to work as a full-time researcher at the Institute of Animal Physiology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences [2] . The author of several dozen publications [3]

As a writer specializing in the genre of horror and dark fantasy , he is the author of a dozen stories published in magazines (Fantázia, Pevnost) and anthologies (Antologie), as well as three novels [4] [5] .

Creativity

For the first time he became famous among Slovak fans of fantasy and horror with the publication of his story “Migraine”, which brought terrible nightmares to rural eastern Slovakia. The novel saw the light in the anthology "Krutoglav 2001" - an annual collection of the best Slovak stories in the genre of science fiction, fantasy and horror. [6] and received the 2001 Béla Award for best horror short story. [7] Most of his further short prose was published in Fantázia, including the famous short stories Three Black Tuesdays (later translated into Polish [8] ) and On the Eve of May, for which he was awarded the Istron Prize in 2006 year.

Fabian's debut novel, Invocatio Elementalium, was released as a separate book in a Czech translation in 2006, while the original Slovak version was published in four parts, continued in Fantazia magazine, issues 36–39 from July 2006 to April 2007. In 2007 Dark Horse published two volumes of a Polish translation of this work entitled Rytual. [9] The novel is about bank clerk David Abel, who is forced to abandon his monotonous lifestyle after being the accidental victim of a curse imposed by a demon from the astral plane . The book earned mostly positive reviews, [10] where the work of Fabian was compared with the novels of Sergei Lukyanenko and Neil Gaiman ; [11] however, some critics considered the novel unbalanced, [12] which lacks the closer and dynamic structure of his short works. [13]

The novel "Invocatio Elementalium" was included in the final list of candidates for the prize of the Czech and Slovak Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Chorus for 2006 in the category "Best Czech or Slovak Book" in March 2007 [14]

Fabian's latest work, Pestis Draconum, to some extent a continuation of the novel Invocatio Elementalium with the same main character, was released in a Czech translation on May 26, 2008 by Brokilon.
