Malta ( Latvian. Malta ) is a river in Latvia , a left tributary of the Rezekne River. The length of the river is 105 km, the catchment area is 882.9 km². ^[one]

The river flows out of Salais Lake ( Latvian Salājs ). It flows mainly to the north through the territory of Vilansky , Dagda , Rezekne and Riebinsky territories to Lake Lubans . On the river there are many lakes. Previously, the Malta flowed directly into Lake Lubans, but since 1966 its waters have been directed along the 6 km long canal into the Rezekne River. The canal and the channel section are 2 km above the canal and surrounded by dams . The section of the old channel 8.5 km long is used for drainage ^[2] .

The fall of the channel in the upper course is about 2 m / km, below the city of Wilani - less than 0.5 m / km. On the river, there is the town of Vilani, the villages of Crooki , Malta , Nagli , Silmala .
