History

The first pavilion No. 20 was built by the architect A. M. Pokorny in 1939 for the “Drainage and Irrigation” exposition, which was never placed in it: after the opening, the pavilion was occupied by the exposition of the North Caucasus and Crimea . In the early 1950s, according to the project of architect O. N. Rusakov, the pavilion was reconstructed to exhibit “Cotton”; it underwent another reconstruction in 1953, when it learned the new name “State Farms”. Subsequently, the theme of the pavilion changed several times: in 1956-1959 there was an exposition dedicated to the woodworking and paper industries, and in 1959-1966 - the exposition "Transport of the USSR", but to this day the pavilion has not been preserved, since in 1966 it was demolished [2] .

The present pavilion was built in 1966-1967 according to the project of architects Boris Vilensky , N. Ya. Bulkin, I. Levites, M. Lyakhovsky and Z. Nazarov, with the participation of A. Vershinin. The building was built in the style of Soviet modernism and is a glass parallelepiped. The area of the pavilion is 6188 square meters [2] [3] .

In the pavilion was an exposition dedicated to the chemical industry of the Soviet Union. Demonstrated machinery and equipment used in this industry, as well as samples of finished products of chemical industries in a wide range. The stands were posted, telling about the geography of production, scientific developments, new achievements and plans in the chemical industry. In the 1990s, the exposition was liquidated, after which until now the pavilion holds temporary exhibitions of various subjects and contents [2] .
