- January 24-28 - Junior World Skeleton Championships took place on the track in Sigulda [1] .
February
- February 4-5 - The junior world championship in luge took place on the track in Sigulda [2] .
- February 9 - Presidents of Latvia and Germany Raimonds Vejonis and Joachim Gauk opened the Reformation Square in Riga in Riga [3] .

- July 3-19 - Family doctors' strike demanding increased funding for health care [12] [13] .
- July 22 - The first choir competition under the auspices of the European Broadcasting Union Eurovision Song Contest was held in Riga : The choir of the year - 2017 , the choir from Latvia took the third place [14] .
August
- August 18-19 - The World Rogaining Championship was held in Razna National Park [15] [16] .
- August 23-30 - Flooding in eastern Latvia, caused by heavy rains [17] [18] . On August 29, the Government of Latvia declared a state of emergency in the 27 regions most affected by the floods, mostly located in Latgale , partly in Vidzeme and Zemgale [19] .
September
- September 2 - Daugavpils Duma dismissed the mayor of Daugavpils, Andrei Elksins (party " Consent "), who took this position according to the results of the local elections of June 3, 2017. A new coalition was formed in the Duma as part of Our Party and the Latgalian Party , which approved the new mayor Richard Eygims [20] .
- September 7 - Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis announced a proposal to stop the status of non-citizens for children born in Latvia. According to the president, all children born in Latvia after June 1, 2018, should automatically become citizens of the republic , unless the child received foreign citizenship. On September 12, the president sent a corresponding bill to the Sejm [21] .
- September 21 - The Seimas declined to support the proposal of the President of Latvia Raimonds Vejonis to stop granting the status of non-citizens to children born in Latvia. 38 deputies supported the bill, the rest voted against, abstained or did not participate in the vote [22] [23] .
October
- October 6 - The Minister of Education and Science Karlis Šadurskis voiced a proposal according to which, from 2020, general education in all secondary schools in Latvia will be taught only in Latvian. The exception will be languages, literature and history of national minorities [24] .
November
- November 6 - The former leader of the Unity party and the head of the faction of this party in the Seimas Solvita Aboltina was excluded from the Unity for “gross violation of the statute” [25] .
December
- December 10 - The only wooden church in Vidzeme coast burned down in Carnikava , built in 1729 [26] [27] .
