Fali is a group of ethnic communities that inhabit the mountainous region of northern Cameroon and the eastern regions of Nigeria bordering Cameroon. They are united by a common ethnonym given to them by representatives of the Fulbe people, a common ethnic territory and similar cultural and everyday features [13] [14] [15] . One part of the Fali living in the Faro and Benue departments of the Northern Region in Cameroon [7] [8] is similar in language to the Adamava-Ubang peoples [1] [2] . Another part of the Fali, living mainly in Nigeria (the areas of , and state state of Adamawa ) [9] [10] [11] [12] is similar in language to the Chadian peoples (bana, vimtim, kiriya and jilbu) [3] [4] [5] [6] .

Under the name "fali" is also known extinct ethnic group that spoke the Benue-Congolese language of the fali-baysa [16] [17] .
Range and abundance
The ethnic territory of the Adamava-Ubangi Fali is surrounded on all sides by the area of the Fulbe settlement. Among the peoples related to this group, the Fali peoples include Doyo , Chamba , Dura , Bali , Mbum and Mumuye [18] . The ethnic territory of the Chadian fali is adjacent to the areas of resettlement of small in number closely related Chadian ethnic groups [19] [20] .
According to estimates published on the website of the , the number of Fali peoples who speak Adamava-Ubangian languages is about 99,000 ; of these, northern Fali - 44 thousand people [1] , southern Fali - 55 thousand people (all in Cameroon) [2] . The number of Fali peoples speaking Chadian languages is about 105,500 , including 75,200 in Nigeria and 30,300 in Cameroon; of which, bans - 60 thousand people (in Nigeria - 30 thousand people, in Cameroon - 30 thousand people) [3] , vimtim - 31 thousand people [4] , kiriya - 6.8 thousand people (all - in Nigeria) [5] , jilbu - 7.7 thousand people (in Nigeria - 7.4 thousand people, in Cameroon - 0.3 thousand people) [6] .
