Zivanovich, Toma

Toma Живivanović ( Serb. Toma Живivanoviћ, Toma Živanović ; February 19, 1884, Paracin of the Pomora District, Serbia - March 31, 1971, Belgrade ) - Serbian legal philosopher and forensic scientist, specialist in criminal and military criminal law , also known for his works in criminology.

He graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade in 1906. Trained in Paris . Since 1909, he worked as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade, and since 1920, he was a professor of criminal law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade. Corresponding member (since February 18, 1922) and full member (academician) of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (since February 18, 1926)

After World War II, the authorities banned Zivanovich from teaching at the university.

Tom Zhivanovich is also widely known for the fact that, together with Professor M.P. Chubinsky, he developed the draft Criminal Code of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia , which was adopted on January 27, 1929 (valid until 1951).

Contribution

The works of Toma Zhivanovich were completely devoted to science, in addition to criminal law, he was also engaged in legal philosophy. His most significant works:

  • "The system of synthetic legal philosophy"
  • “Fundamentals of criminal law (Serbian)”
  • “Fundamentals of the criminal law of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia”
  • "Fundamentals of military law"
  • "Oh is inevitable"

He wrote a large number of articles in Russian and foreign languages. In essence, he introduced the concept of criminology , defining criminology as the science of punishment . However, his theory is also significant, according to which criminology is a science that deals with the general study of crimes and perpetrators, using knowledge from other sciences.

The theory was accepted in Italy , France , Canada and other countries. The works of Zhivanovich were appreciated throughout the world.
