Biography

Nikolai Bogaevsky was born on February 6, 1843. He was brought up in the 1st cadet corps ; On June 13, 1862 he was promoted to second lieutenant in engineer battalions with a secondment to the Nikolaev Engineering Academy , from where he was released into military engineers in 1864.

In 1865 he was appointed to Turkestan in the detachment of General Chernyaev , in 1866 he participated in the campaign of D.I. Romanovsky to Dzhizak through the Hungry Steppe and in the battle of Irjar, where the army of the Bukhara emir Muzaffar was defeated, and then - during the siege of the fortified city of Khojent , taken by storm; for the difference in the campaign of 1867 he was awarded the orders of sv. Stanislav 3rd degree with swords and bow and St. Vladimir 4th degree.

On March 4, 1881, Bogaevsky was promoted to major general with seniority on the basis of the Manifesto on February 18, 1762 (subsequently established from April 8, 1884), and on September 20, 1882 he was appointed chief of engineers of the Odessa Military District . On August 30, 1894 he was promoted to lieutenant general , on September 9 of the same year he was appointed head of the 34th Infantry Division , and on June 21, 1899 he was transferred to the post of commandant of the Novogeorgievskaya fortress . In 1903 he was awarded the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky , and on December 6, 1904, Bogaevsky received the rank of General Engineer .

On March 21, 1906, Bogaevsky was appointed assistant commander of the Odessa Military District and, under the conditions of the first Russian revolution, from August 14, 1906 to April 20, 1907 was simultaneously interim governor general of the southern mining and plant area.

On April 12, 1908, Bogaevsky was appointed a member of the Military Council and remained in this position until the end of his life.

Nikolai Venediktovich Bogaevsky died on September 12, 1912 in Geneva , while in foreign prison. Buried at the family cemetery in Novocherkassk .

In the military-technical literature, the research of N. V. Bogaevsky on building materials of the Turkestan Territory, published in the Engineering Journal, is known.

The brother of Nikolai Venediktovich Ivan Venediktovich Bogaevsky rose to the rank of general from infantry and was the head of the 16th Infantry Division .
