Biography
Charles Dagar was born in 1669 in Paris in the family of the artist Jacques d'Agard . He received his first lessons from his father. In 1682, Charles followed his father into exile in London and then to Copenhagen , where d'Agar Sr. became a court painter. The younger Agar returned to London in 1691 , where he painted a lot of portraits on behalf of the Duke Bakl and Lord Bolingbroke . Since he often did not sign them, many portraits of d'Agard were traditionally attributed to his more famous contemporary Godfrey Kneller . Some of his works can be found at Nunnington Hall .
