Biography
Born on July 5, 1914 in the village of Petrovka, Krasnogradsky district, Kharkov region .
In 1939 he graduated from the Chuguev Military Aviation School of Pilots, in 1940 - courses of unit commanders at the Kirovabad Military Aviation School of Pilots.
Member of the Great Patriotic War since June 1941 . By June 1943 made 462 sorties, in 106 air battles personally shot down 8 and in a group of 3 aircraft.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 24, 1943, Kolesnik was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
During the war he made 585 sorties, in air battles he personally shot down 8 and as part of a group of 13 aircraft.
After the war, he continued to command the regiment (Belarusian Military District). In 1950 he graduated from the Advanced Training Courses for the command staff at the Air Force Academy (Monino). He commanded a division, corps. In 1953-1954, he was deputy commander of the 54th Air Army Air Defense (in the Far East). In 1956 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff. In 1956-1958 he was the deputy commander for air defense, in 1958-1960 he was the 1st deputy commander of the 48th air army (Odessa Military District). From December 1960 to April 1964 he commanded the 69th Air Army (Kiev Military District). In the years 1964-1968 - Chief of the Air Force of the Kiev Military District. From February to April 1968 he again commanded the 69th Air Army. In 1968-1973 - Chief of Staff - 1st Deputy Commander of the 69th (since March 1972 - 17th) Air Army. Lieutenant General Aviation Kolesnik was a deputy of the Supreme Council of the Ukrainian SSR and a candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU of Ukraine. Vasily Artyomovich was a delegate to the XXIII Congress of the CPSU, XXII, XXIII and XXIV congresses of the Communist Party of Ukraine.
He died on May 2, 1996 . He was buried in Kiev at the Lukyanovsky military cemetery.
