Cyborgs is a Ukrainian full-length feature film directed by Akhtem Seitablaev about the fighting at the Donetsk airport during the armed conflict in the Donbass . The film was shot according to the original script of Natalia Vorozhbit .

The film is one of the winners of the 8th competitive selection of the Goskino of Ukraine and received state financial support in 50% of the cost of the film in the amount of 24 million hryvnia [2] . The total cost of the film is estimated at almost 48 million hryvnia.
The premiere of films in Ukraine took place on December 6, 2017 - on the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine [3] .

Filming
Filming began on February 9, 2017 [4] . The film set was in the village of Kryukovshchina, Kiev region [5] . Part of the material was shot in the Chernihiv region : scenes of tank battles were recreated on the Goncharovsky firing range, and the exterior of the airfield was on the runway of the reserve Chernihiv airfield [6] .
The consultant of the tape was Cyril Nedrya (call sign "Associate Professor") - one of the Ukrainian military who participated in the defense of the Donetsk airport. The teacher of the Dnipropetrovsk University of Internal Affairs, Kirill Nedrya, received a concussion at the airport terminal shortly before he left [7] .
Filming was completed in April 2017, after which the installation phase began.
Story
The film tells the story of one two-week combat watch in September 2014. A group of Ukrainian military for the first time arrives in the damaged building of the old terminal of Donetsk airport named after Sergei Prokofiev .
A volunteer with the call sign “Major” (played by Makar Tikhomirov ), a musician and son of influential parents, secretly fled to the war. He is trying to understand his role in this war, the war itself, and what will happen after it. Along with him are six more military men whose prototypes are the real defenders of the airport.
Cast
In February 2017, before filming, the director Akhtem Seitablaev announced that there would be six main characters in the film with the call signs Major, Serpen, Guide, Saturday, Mars and Old [6] . In a later interview given to Radio Liberty in August 2017, Seitablaev stated that there would be only five protagonists in the film [8] . In the released film there are seven of them, including an unprofessional physician, a volunteer from the time of Euromaidan , a psychologist with a spiritual education, nicknamed "Psycho."

Release
On August 15, 2017, the State Film Committee of Ukraine and the Ukrainian film distributor - the company UFD - presented the first official teaser of the film. The teaser sounds the song of the Ocean Elsa group “ Not Your War ” [1] .
Reaction
Fees
For two weekends the film collected 15.752 million hryvnias, the film was seen by 212 182 viewers [9] . Thus, a new record was set for domestic films in Ukrainian box office [10] .
Criticism
The film received mixed reviews from critics. Some noted a weak directing and a weak action side, as well as the predominance of “cardboard” dialogs [11] , while others praised the realism of the fighting scenes [12] .
At the same time, the first deputy head of the Goskino of Ukraine, Sergei Neretin, quite emotionally sharply urged film critics to keep their negative reviews of the film until the conflict in the east of the country and the return of Crimea to Ukraine [13] .
