Description
Bellotto reached the pinnacle of his creative career during his long trip to Italy , which he made in 1744 . Two paintings that are stored in the Pinacoteca Brera, “Villa Meltzi in Gadzade near Lake Varese” and “ View of Gadzada ”, the artist obviously conceived as a couple. The canvases were not divided and sold separately in the art market and are considered some of the best landscapes in northern Lombardy .
This canvas depicts Villa Meltzi in Gadzade near Lake Varese , surrounded by lake waters and snow-capped mountains. Bellotto does not stop at fixing the landscape, capturing the tiniest light nuances of an early autumn morning, but conveys the mood of the time of year, its characteristic lighting and atmosphere. The artist depicts one of the Lombard landscapes on which the alpine mountain Monte Rosa is reflected in the clear water of Lake Varese. Bellotto places a balanced and harmonious architecture against the backdrop of nature.
