He graduated from the school of mechanization in the city of Marx (the current Marx Agricultural College).
In the postwar years, he moved to the village of Orlovskoye, Marxovsky District , where he stayed for life. In the Soviet years, he worked as a combine harvester on the Lenin Way collective farm.
In April 1971 he was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor for labor valor with the award of the Sickle and Hammer gold medal and the Order of Lenin . He was previously awarded the Order of Lenin, and received his first labor award - a medal for high performance in the harvest - at the age of 18.
Among other awards are the Order of the October Revolution (1975), the title “ Honorary Collective Farmer ” (1985) and “Honorary Citizen of the Marxian District” (1985) [1] , the medal “ For Labor Valor ” [2] , the VDNKh medal [3] .
In 2010, in the city of Marx, on the Alley of Heroes, a bust of Yakunkin was installed [2] .
