Evarist Vital Lumine ( French Évariste Vital Luminais ; (October 13, 1821 - May 14, 1896) is a French artist, best known for his work on the early history of France, for which he is sometimes called the “ Gaul painter”.

Life and work
Born in Nantes . Michelle-Pierre Lumine's grandmother represented Vendée in parliament from 1799 to 1803, grandfather was a local official, father, Rene Marie Lumine , represented the Atlantic Loire (1831–1834) and Indre and Loire (1848–1849) [ 6] [7] . A family that recognized the artist’s natural talent sent Evarist to Paris at the age of 18, where he studied with the artists Auguste Debe and Leon Cognier [8] .
Lumine's debut took place at the Paris Salon of 1843 [9] . He was awarded a gold medal at the 1889 World's Fair . In 1869 he received the Order of the Legion of Honor .
One of the most famous paintings by Lumine, on the plot of the medieval legend of the relaxed from Jumiège , is in the Rouen Museum of Fine Arts . Salvador Dali specially came to Rouen to see her [10] . Simone de Beauvoir wrote about the lasting impression that the picture made on her.
